Junior Convenor
Kirstin Scott (12) (Milngavie G C) won the 15 - 17 age group in the Janice Moodie Trophy at Windyhill ****** Scottish Girls at Alyth G.C. Jill Meldrum (Dullatur G C) had an excellent run in this competition In the first round she beat A. Summers of Pannure Barry 6 & 5, second round Jill beat H. McCook of Abernethy at the 20th and in the quarter finals Jill was beaten at by Gillian Hanlan at the 19th!! Quite a week for Jill. ************* Kennedy Salver This years Kennedy Salver (Junior Jamboree) was held on Thursday 19th June at Ayr Dalmilling G.C. Taking part were the junior County teams from the West of Scotland - Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and D & A. Representing D & A were our junior champion Zoe Differ, Kerrie Differ and Lauren Meldrum all from Dullatur Golf Club and our rookie players were Hannah Ferguson of Clober, Tracy Stark of Dalmally and Robyn Michie from Milngavie. They played foursomes in the morning and singles in the afternoon. We scored only one point in the morning from the pairing of Lauren Meldrum and Tracy Stark. We won three of the singles matches in the afternoon with points gained by Zoe Differ, Kerrie Differ and Robyn Michie. Total of four points but not good enough this year. The winners were Ayrshire with a total of six and a half points. Runners up were Lanarkshire who gained all their four and a half points in the afternoon singles - we came third and Renfrewshire finished with three points getting two of their points in the foursomes in the morning but only winning one of their singles matches. The girls had a great day and as it was the Kennedy Salver it had to be very difficult weather conditions, wind, rain and even a short spell of sunshine. Golf in Scotland don't you just love it?? Four seasons in four hours!! I'd like to congratulate the girls on their performance, all games played in great spirit and friendship as was proved when each county had their own tables for lunch but the girls decided they would all rather mix and sit together it was a rather large table. (and noisy!!) I'd like to thank June Kerr from Ayrshire who hosted the Jamboree, it is back to our turn to host next years competition so let's hope we can do better on home turf - it's a long time since D & A girls have won the Salver. We are having a home and away match with Lanarkshire as yet no dates have been finalised but will keep you posted. Keep swinging Karen p.s. On behalf of the girls I'd like to wish our own Kylie Walker and Lanarkshire's Pamela Pretswell the very best when they travel to Sweden to represent the Scottish ladies team. Both girls are past junior county players and a great inspiration to our junior girls. From Karen - Hi All Just a wee update on what's going on with Junior Girls. We had our first serious coaching session at Mearns Golf Centre with pro Karyn Burns. This was very well attended with 17 girls coming along. We have a new member this season who plays out of Machrahanish G.C. but hails all the way from Denmark. Her name is Lise Andersen and is a very promising young golfer with a handicap of 14. The girls made her most welcome and she had a most enjoyable day as did her Mum Anette. The girls played a team match against the senior team on Sunday 16th March. They played foursomes and the result was 2 - 2. Tracy Stark played her first match for the girls, Tracy plays at Dalmally and with young Kirstin Scott from Milngavie won their game at Hilton. Nikki Ferguson and Jill Meldrum also won their game and I am proud to tell you Jill has been selected once again for the Scotland team to compete at Cragielaw in April at the National under16 Championships. We have a few other girls entered in the individual event and hope they have a great time. We have four girls selected to play against Stirling & Clachmannanshire alongside the senior team - they are: Robyn Michie and Kirstin Scott (Milngavie) Louisa Pelosi (Hilton Park) and Tracy Stark from Dalmally. This match takes place on 13th April at Glenbervie Golf Club. The next training is arranged for Sunday 30th March at Mearns but please note the time has changed to 4 pm instead of 1 pm - any problems phone Karen Maxwell. We have a match with Lanarkshire in the near future but as yet have not arranged a course or selected a team so get out there and practice. Remember those girls with handicaps of 24 or less can play in the County championships in April and the competitions during the school holidays. Hope the weather gets better, have a great season Keep swinging Karen
